Through the Lens Friday

An April sunrise at Myrtle Beach gave me this moment: anglers lined up along the pier, their silhouettes set against a sky turning orange.

I exposed for the sky and let the people fall into shadow. You can’t see their faces, but the rods, their postures, and the quiet space between them tell the story. Each person is waiting for something to happen.

That’s what I enjoy about photographing people fishing. The catch is only one part of the experience. Sometimes the photograph is already there before the first bite.
