Welcome to Marshlight Outdoors
Marshlight Outdoors is an outdoor journal rooted in experience.
It is a place for stories gathered along rivers, around marshes, behind a camera, at the tying vise, and anywhere the natural world offers something worth noticing.
Some stories begin with a fish rising through the surface. Others begin with a bird moving through the grass, a familiar fly pattern taking shape at the vise, or a quiet lesson learned after years spent outdoors.
Through these stories, I hope to encourage greater participation in the outdoors, a deeper appreciation for wildlife and habitat, and a stronger commitment to conserving the places that make these experiences possible.
Meet Tom
I’m Tom Carpenter—a wildlife conservation educator, angler, hunter, fly tier, photographer, and lifelong student of the outdoors.
My career has centered on helping people develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to participate in fishing and other wildlife-associated recreation. I believe that meaningful outdoor experiences can create lifelong connections to wildlife, habitat, and conservation.
My path has also included service in the United States Army and the 82nd Airborne Division. The values learned through that service—preparation, perseverance, responsibility, and commitment to something larger than yourself—continue to influence how I approach teaching, conservation, and time spent outdoors.
Marshlight Outdoors brings these parts of my life together. It is where education meets experience, tradition meets reflection, and outdoor stories become opportunities to learn.
